As a licensed Pipefitter, responsibilities include the installation, repair and maintenance of plant equipment, pumps and pipe lines pertaining to production, processing, plant heating system, sprinkler system, water, gas, air, steam and condensate lines, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dismantle, move and connect plant processing, heating and cooling equipment, which includes steam-jacketed kettles, storage kettles, storage tanks, heat exchangers, filters, presses, unit heaters, radiators, sinks and associated equipment. Locate and remove faulty valves, fittings, and pipes, etc. Repair pumps, steam pressure reducing valves, steam traps, and other such accessories. Perform pipe covering, insulation and lagging of hot water vessels as well as maintenance and repair of all plumbing fixtures
- Perform welding tasks related to the installation or maintenance of plant equipment and piping.
- Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs of transfer and vacuum pumps.
- Prepare job material lists and perform job costing.
- Assist other maintenance personnel as necessary.
- Attend outside training courses as required in order to maintain or enhance technical skills.
- Work with engineering personnel on capital/expense projects, supplying costs, material lists, provide input to determine proper lay-out, provide information in the selection of equipment for SC Johnson (i.e. pumps, valves, controllers, etc. to maintain consistent suppliers).
- Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner, paying special attention to hazards to which production personnel may be susceptible. Maintain good housekeeping in areas of work.
- Perform job responsibilities in such a manner as to contribute to a team effort within the department, assisting fellow employees in achieving the overall daily objectives of the work group.
- Assist in the installation of new filling and transfer equipment. After installation, set up equipment and ensure it meets standard performance.
- Provide direction and training where required to production personnel to assist operators in the proper use of pumps and transfer equipment.
- Perform maintenance work (rebuilds, etc.) requiring advanced technical skills. Troubleshoot problems outside the normal skill level.
- Provide input in ensuring the adequate type and number of spare parts is available in the stockroom to support the equipment in area of responsibility.
- Serve as members of the Emergency Response Team.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Experience You’ll Bring:
- Licensed Plumber with 306A ticket
- Experience in manufacturing, preferably 2 – 3 years or more related to the packaged goods industry
- Ability and willingness to work all shifts including nights and afternoons and continental shifts as required.
Preferred Experiences and Skills:
- Cross connection control specialist certification would be an asset.
- Gas fitter certification G3,G2.G1 would be an asset
- Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting abilities
- Able to work independently and in a Team based environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
- SAP experience an asset
