Howe Street Campus
Architecture is a major part of SCJ’s heritage and reflects our long‑standing commitment to design, innovation, and employee experience. Our global corporate headquarters on Howe Street was designed by world‑renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Opened in 1939, it is the only Wright-designed corporate headquarters that remains operational today.
Alongside the historic architecture, the modern buildings of Fortaleza Hall and Waxbird Commons complement the campus and reflect our company’s future‑focused vision. The buildings are connected by shared spaces and a network of tunnels, making it easy for teams to come together across the campus. Visitors can experience campus through free tours that highlight the architecture and share SCJ's rich history.
Teams supporting all areas of our business are represented at the Howe Street headquarters, serving as the hub of strategy and leadership for our family company.
Administration Building and Research Tower Architecture
Frank Lloyd Wright called the SCJ Administration Building "an architectural interpretation of modern business at its best." The iconic Great Workroom is just the beginning, featuring an open office plan decades ahead of its time, soaring columns, innovative modular furniture, glass Pyrex tubing windows and more.
The iconic Research Tower opened in 1950 and was a hub of innovation and discovery that led to the development of trusted brands including Raid®, Glade® and Pledge®.
WAXBIRD COMMONS
Waxbird Commons is our newest redesigned building, named in honor of our aviation heritage and our first company airplane, the Johnson Waxbird. Test flights from the Waxbird informed the 1935 Carnaúba expedition, during which 4th‑generation leader H.F. Johnson Jr. traveled 15,000 miles to northeast Brazil in search of Carnaúba palm wax, then a key ingredient in Johnson wax products.
The building features a contemporary design with features of geothermal heating and cooling, solar energy, photovoltaic-wind (PV) lights, recycled asphalt pavement, and more. Inside, team members collaborate in open-concept workstations, modern meeting areas, and expansive conference spaces.
Fortaleza Hall
The 60,000-square-foot, award-winning Fortaleza Hall opened in 2010 and is a tribute to two pioneering company leaders: H.F. Johnson, Jr. and Sam Johnson.
The facility serves as a contemporary partner to the Administration Buildings. World-renowned architect Norman Foster designed the structure to incorporate glass and light, rounded shapes and edges, interplay between interior and exterior, soaring stone columns and innovative design.
Fortaleza Hall is home to many of the Howe Street Campus amenities as well as SCJ history displays.

Inside the Center
In the controlled, carefully monitored environment of the Center, researchers study about 20 species of insects and all aspects of insect behavior, development and methods of insect control to support our expertise in pest control and insect-borne diseases. They investigate new technologies, trying to identify the best pest-control strategies and delivery devices.
