JOB TITLE: Packaging Engineer
Location: Mijdrecht
Summary:
- Support cross functional project teams in Development, Commercialization, Launch, and Post Launch Phases of the End-to-End process to ensure project schedule, cost, capital, quality, and customer service objectives are met for regional and global projects.
- Lead the technical development, validation and qualification of new or revised packaging materials & products on global and regional brands.
- Develop new products/packaging, line extensions and lead technological advancements which expand the organizational and market needs for the assigned portion of our business.
Responsibilities:
- Drive holistic packaging development, execution and implementation by being responsible for ensuring packaging is,
- Consumer desirable by meeting commercial, product performance and quality requirements – for both traditional as E-Comm supply chains and markets.
- Compliant with internal / external requirements (i.e. regulatory, sustainability)
- Manufacturable, driving scale up and ensuring proper selection of the right equipment
- Support development of timelines, key milestones, and risk and mitigation plans.
- Support risk identification/mitigation plans to achieve project objectives.
- Support first time right BOM (Bill of Material) management with Marketing and Planning.
- Develop and manage robust and aligned specifications for components, finished goods, palletizations.
- Develop, lead, and complete performance / compatibility testing and line trials for both internal and contract manufacturing sites within Europe.
- For testing, trials and assessments, define key success criteria and ensure effective and robust reporting of results, recommendations, conclusions.
- Participate in assessment of new project requests on technical feasibility and risks, and optimized project portfolio execution by identifying interlinking initiatives.
- Identify and apply new and existing packaging materials and technologies towards the development of innovative new products and the enhancement of existing products that consumers find appealing and easy to use; packaging that is compelling and allows SC Johnson to "win at the store shelf".
Experience you’ll bring:
- Bachelor/Master of Science or equivalent degree in related field, i.e. Industrial Design Engineering, Packaging Engineer Program, Material Science.
- Relevant number of years’ experience in product/packaging (primary, secondary, tertiary) development and manufacturing.
- Technical competency and working knowledge of various packaging related technologies, disciplines, materials: i.e. dispensing systems, closures, aerosols, liquids, rigid plastics, flexible films, labels, molding technology, paper/corrugate cartons, sustainability (i.e. PPWR) etc.).
- Considered a plus,
- Product Management systems experience (i.e., SAP Product Lifecycle Management)
- FMCG experience

- Strong verbal & written communication skills, with ability to tailor communication (i.e. content, style, medium) and deliver a concise message across different levels within the organization.
- Ability to lead technical work ranging from individual research initiatives to more complex projects, serving as the RDE Technical Lead when called upon to manage multiple projects/work-streams.
- Excellent organizational, prioritizing, and problem-solving skills.
- Decision making skills for problems up to a medium grade of complexity.
- Technical curiosity to investigate the source of issues & opportunities, while providing creative ideas, quality of work, and speed through a results-oriented approach.
